In 1998, the business studies graduate and current managing director Götz Albrecht Lewens established the company Lewens Sonnenschutz-Systeme GmbH & Co. KG in Ludwigslust.

on a 14000 m² site
It all began on a production site covering 2000 m² and in a makeshift office in the founder’s apartment in Ludwigslust. The first desk was not delivered on time and so a simple orange box had to suffice initially.
All that has now changed. Today the Lewens workforce of nearly 100 employees produces 1-2 new awning models every year on a production site covering approx. 14000 m2. Top-quality awnings are manufactured in a fully integrated process that extends from design development via making-up of the fabric to assembly.
Since the start of 2011, the company has had its own powder coating facility too, which is capable of producing the awning frames in 22 colours instead of the standard 3-5 colours. And by the beginning of 2012 the new glass roof production facility will also be operational.
